T20 India Launches SEI and FFA Joint Policy Brief on Achieving a Just Energy Transition
Think20 (T20), an official Engagement Group of the G20, has published a policy brief submitted by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Fair Finance Asia (FFA), titled, “Achieving a Just Energy Transition in the G20.”
The policy brief calls on the G20 to take the lead in international efforts to achieve a just energy transition that’s based on the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
The policy brief highlights that G20 countries contribute massive amounts of greenhouse gas emissions and must also, therefore, take concrete actions to phase out fossil fuels from their economies. Authored by Dimas Fauzi, Research Associate, SEI, Stefan Bößner, Research Fellow, SEI, Claudia Strambo, Research Fellow, SEI, and Bernadette Victorio, Program Lead, FFA, the policy brief recommends that the G20:
- Improve governance to shift energy regimes towards a low-carbon pathways;
- Pursue strategies to diversify economies using an appropriate mechanism for transition finance; and
- Coordinate and synchronise global efforts on just energy transitions that is just and leaves no one behind.
