“Living in Medupi’s Shadow: Stories from Lephalale”: new case study from FFCSA
On 1st September Fair Finance Coalition Southern Africa (FFCSA) launched a new case study on the impacts of the internationally financed Medupi Coal Power Station. The report titled “Living in Medupi’s Shadow: Stories from Lephalale” sheds light on the role of development finance institutions in the development and construction of Medupi and the ramifications of the mega project on the communities of Lephalale, Limpopo, who face severe poverty and socio-economic adversity.
The case study follows the recent launch of a photo exhibition to mark the sixteenth anniversary of the construction of the Medupi Coal Power Station, which is made up of evocative and unfiltered images, offering a candid glimpse into the lives of communities in the town of Lephalale, who have endured the far-reaching impacts of the project.
